lyrics

I know the LA that you don't
I know the Compton the Watts
The unromanticization of gentrification
I know the dirty Hollywood stars and every corner coffee shops
I know the colonization of the hood
I've seen liquor stores Columbused
White cloaks draped over communities
You say disfunctional streets but I say porch story times
And bonded trauma
A history built on hidden connections not seen from the outside
LA is a melting pot of diversity
Amongst the ghetto they'll try to claim
But love is one thing that's not relative
Love is the essence of this city
From the murals of 24 and George
Lost and hero'd beyond death
To a store now monumental 'cause of someone's marathon hustle
And the parks Leimert and the likes
Bustling with life
Like drum circles at 9 and black and brown bodies
Free-ly freely dancing and moving and being
Painting the portrait you have to see to believe
How many of our stories do you really know

Cause from the outside you see the littering of hot Cheeto wrappers
And someone's empty coke can
But what we see is remnants of a story
Left behind fragments of a conversation of lives
Someone's son and daughter catching up cause
time got away from us
Their trash is our treasure
How many of our stories DO YOU REALLY KNOW
